With
the Expansion Draft now less than a week away, we resume team by team previews
with a look at the East Division. We will start in Montreal where not only are
the Als looking at preparing for the draft, they are also looking to preparing
for life after Calvillo. I’ll believe it when I see it but he sounds closer to
actual calling it a career than ever.
Round 1: Imports
Players likely to be protected: Troy
Smith, Jon Bowman, Chip Cox, Geoff Tisdale, SJ Green, Jerald Brown, Duron
Carter, Aaron Lavarias, Jamel Richardson, Scooter Berry, Terell Sutton
Notes:
- Billy
Parker and Kyries Hebert are potential free agents so they are being left off
the list.
- Injury
concerns (and the play of Sutton) keep Brandon Whitaker off the list
Who Will Ottawa Take?
Montreal
appears to be a receiver factory and Ottawa could greatly benefit from that. Even
though he’s coming off a down year I think they will go for Brandon London. He’s
a big tall receiver, only one year removed from an 800+ yard season and he’s
still pretty young. He would be a solid addition the new offense.
Round 2: Canadians
Players likely to be protected: Mike
Edem, Jeff Perrett, Ryan Bomben, Steve Lumbala, Jerome Messam, Andrew Woodruff
Notes:
- Big
names like Shea Emry, Josh Bourke, Luc Brodeur-Jourdain and Marc-Olivier
Brouillette are potential FAs
- Scott
Flory is old and coming off a major injury so he won’t be protected.
Who Will Ottawa Take?
Not
sure why but word out of Montreal is that they will not be protecting former 1st
round pick OL Kristian Matte. He will be quickly snapped up by Ottawa. He’s
young and has plenty of upside, plus Canadian OL are always an area of need.
Round 3: Canadians
Players likely to be protected: Patrick
Lavoie, Eric Deslaurier, Mike Klassen, Bo Adebayo, Nicolas Boulay, Pascal
Baillargeon
Who Will Ottawa Take?
Likely
the REDBLACKS! Go young here and DB Jamahl Knowles would be a decent pick along
those.
