Today
marks a milestone I honestly never thought I would see. It was 5 years ago today
that this blog was launched. Five years! When this idea was born back in 2007
as an amusing side project, I never expected it would grow into what it is
today. I assumed apathy, cease and desist order or lack of anyone but my mom
reading this would spell the end of the blog. But here we are 5 years and 674
posts later and it is still going strong. I know some of you have been with me
since the beginning and quite frankly I’m impressed you lasted through over 600
posts. Particularly when the majority of posts contained spelling errors,
incoherency, bad jokes or some combination thereof.
It’s
been another very good year. Here are just a few of the highlights:
- Nominated yet again for the
Canadian Blog awards
- Joined the world of Twitter
(though its likely a debatable point of whether that was a good thing or not)
- Had an article written
about me in the Inside Green section of the Leader Post
- Welcomed Prophet Jr. to the
world.
- And of course… made the
front page of the Leader Post on Labour Day!
People
sometimes ask me what’s next for the Rider Prophet? Well I’ve been pitching a
cartoon series staring me but that seems to have fallen on deaf ears.
Literally… I pitched it to a deaf producer and forgot to bring any visuals. Didn’t
go so well (also may have had something to do with the fact that I’m pretty he
was able to read my lips when I made an offhand Hellen Keller joke). Also, my
pitch for a tell all autobiography hasn’t generated quite the interest from
publishers that I was hoping for. I guess that means I’ll just keep on posting
my overly biased/stereotypical football commentary and exploiting my 4 month
old son for gambling purposes… I’m living the dream.
Traditionally
the 5th is the wood anniversary. As is a recurring theme every time
this anniversary rolls around, I will not be accepting any gifts from Man in
the Bush for fear that he misunderstands the intent of this. Though keeping
with the tradition of the wood anniversary (and in honour of Independence Day
in the states) I will pay homage to both occasions by hitting Media Consultant
in the head with a 2x4 Hacksaw Jim Duggan style. Hooooooooooo!
I’ll
end by thanking some people who make this so enjoyable for me even after 5
years.
- My staff. What they lack in
tangible contributions to the company they more than make up for in … errr…
well I guess you get what you pay for.
- The folks on the Rosemont
Game Day bus.
- All the people up in
Section 206 (including the best dame game day host at Mosaic) who not only put
up with us at every home game but encourage our tomfoolery.
- This inanimate carbon rod
- And last but not least you
my dedicated readers. I’d especially like to make mention of my readers from outside
Saskatchewan I know I’ve got a strong following in Alberta and around Canada, the US and, as I just found out recently, fans from as far away as Hong Kong.
Thanks
for 5 great years and hopefully many more great ones to come.
Congratz Profit.
