Monday Morning Sentimonies: Training Camp Begins

Main camps across the leagues opened up on Sunday including here in Regina. Which is great news because we have gone too damn long without football! Unfortunately due to some scheduling problems (mainly the fact that work won’t accept my claim that I need time off for religious observance... I’m a prophet for goodness sake!)  I haven’t actually been down to camp. That’s where this gets awkward. Usually I would be giving my thoughts on the new recruits and the battles shaping up in camp.

Problem is I haven’t actually seen any of them since mini-camp back in April so I am going purely on second hand knowledge. I don’t like doing that... it’s like relying on the observations of a blind man in a fashion show or relying on the approval of a Manitoban health inspector.

It is also really early in camp to be handing out starters spots... that said it’s never too early to be passing out the cuts. Colt Brennan for example... unless the guy has an absolutely stunning performance in the preseason game it’s just a matter of time until he’s done. I don’t even need to be there to sense that.

Guys who are having good showings early: WR Justin Harper, WR Jason Cherry, DL David Veikune, LB Chris Francis, LB Tyron Brackenridge, DB Chris McKenzie and any RB not named Wynn (another guy who you can book being on our cut lists in a few weeks).

Guys who may be in trouble if they don’t pick it up: Dallas Baker, Scott McHenry and the aforementioned Colt Brennan.

That’s all I have for now. I’ll have more later in the week when we have more than 2 days worth of practice to go on and when I hopefully have some firsthand info to go off of.

  1. Did you ever play football? What makes you an authority on player evaluation? I suppose with the awesome winning tradition the Riders' have evaluating talent might put 1 step ahead of Taman. Oh by the way we will have a new stadium before you do!!!!
    Go Bombers!!!

  2. Wow, I knew Colt Brennan was going to have a tough time, but wow, he looks TERRIBLE out there. Overmatched in every pro league he's been in...time for him to move on to a different profession.

  3. Anon 1 - The irony of a bomber fan lecturing me on winning tradition is not lost on me. As for your stadium, with all the delays you guys have had I would hold your beaking until the thing actually opens. Maybe the big bad wolf will huff and puff and blow the thing down.

Anon 2 - The lesson is don't trust QBs from Hawaii. At least Timmy Chang made it to the field during the regular season.

  4. Usually the one D3 Goldnice point is the fact regardless of whether this bank account is practically absolutely collapsed he looks calm and it's until finally making his reads/throws. Consider we can do better compared toGuild Wars 2 Gold kaufen him although he or she is a safe and secure alternative in a desperate,
